Account sharing

Allow others to manage your devices, playlists and plugins.

Written by Ryan Kulp

Sharing an account lets other people manage your content with their own login email and password. They can also maintain a separate account with its own private devices.

Step 1 - Name your account (optional)

Visit your Account and find the Account name on the left side. Invited users will see this, so pick something like "Home" or your company name. If you leave it blank, members will see your name instead.

Step 2 - Invite someone

Under Sharing, provide someone's email address and click Invite. They'll receive an email with a link that's valid for 14 days. The invitation shows as Pending until they accept, and Remove cancels it.

Step 3 - Accept the invitation

This step is for the person you invited. After opening the link in the invitation email, they can choose to create a new TRMNL account or connect an existing account.

Each TRMNL account can be a member of unlimited other accounts.

Also worth noting: any email may be used to "accept" an invitation. So if you invite someone's personal address, but they want to accept the invitation with a work address, that's fine.

Once an invitation is accepted, the member will land into the owner's dashboard, already managing their account.

Step 4 - You're done!

While managing another user's account, a banner will appear at the top of every page including that account name. Clicking Back to my account returns you to your own devices.

Everything you change belongs to that account. A plugin you connect, a playlist you reorder or a device you rename is theirs, and low battery emails for those devices still go to the owner user.

Switching devices in the top-right dropdown will not change the "current device" for the owner user, only for your logged in session. So collaborating on a TRMNL account at the same time is OK.

To switch between accounts themselves, navigate to your your account and select a dropdown option beneath Accounts shared with you, then click Manage.

Removing access

As the owner user, navigate to your account and click Remove beside the person under Sharing. It takes effect on their next click, wherever they are.

As a member, pick the account under Accounts shared with you and click Leave.

Troubleshooting

The invitation link says "page not found"
A link works for 14 days and for one accept. The owner may also have removed the invitation. Ask them to send a new one.

That invitation is for your own account
You opened the link while signed in as the owner. Sign out first, or open the link in a private window and sign in as the person invited.

You already manage this account
A second invitation to someone who already has access changes nothing.

Switch back to your own account first
The Account page, billing and similar pages belong to the owner's login. Click Back to my account in the banner to reach your own.

Your access to that account was removed
The owner removed you, and you are back on your own dashboard.

Too many attempts
Invitations are limited to 10 an hour. Wait a few minutes and try again.
