TRMNL X in Portrait Mode Shows Landscape Screen

The TRMNL X was, prior to April 9, 2026, showing portrait on a paricular plugin or recipe, but suddenly started showing the landscape screen. Alternatively, some plugins show landscape, others show portrait.

On April 9, 2026 we changed the way we structure the orientation change on the backend. While most plugins and screens were unaffected, if you have a plugin that is not showing the proper orientation, follow these steps to get things back in sync again.

Force Refresh

Make sure that the plugin or recipe has generated a new screen recently. If available, use the Force Refresh link on the plugin settings page. If not available, please wait till your next scheduled refresh has occurred.

Save Orientation Again

Under your TRMNL X Device Settings > Color Palette > Orientation, change the orientation to the opposite option and click Save. Then, change it back to your desired option and click Save again.
