Measuring how you leverage email requires 2 things: a free or paid Email Meter account, and a little bit of (safe, ethical) web browser hacking.

To make a free Email Meter account, visit emailmeter.com. Then follow along below.

Inside TRMNL, navigate to Plugins > Email Meter.

Now for some web hacking. Don't worry, no coding experience is required.

Using either Chrome or Firefox (web browser), log into Email Meter and visit your dashboard. It will look something like this:

Next, open your browser's Developer Tools via the browser's toolbar, navigating to View > Developer > Developer tools like so:

A new section should appear in your browser. It may be along the bottom, the right side, or even popped out as a new tab. Click on the "Console" tab of this new pane.

Click into the empty line at the bottom of the Console, paste the following, and press Enter:

localStorage.getItem("userToken")

The Console answers with a long string of letters and numbers wrapped in quotes. Copy everything between the quotes. That is your session token.

If the Console answers null, you are not logged in. Log into Email Meter in this same tab, then paste the line again.

Back inside TRMNL, paste the token into the Session Token field:

Optionally give your Email Meter plugin a name, then click Save.

Based on your device's refresh settings, you'll begin seeing Email Meter analytics very soon.

The screen says Email Meter rejected the token. Email Meter expires this token when your session there ends, for example when you log out or your login times out. There is no fixed lifetime we can quote. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 with a fresh token and the next refresh picks it up.

The Console line answers null. You are logged out of Email Meter in that tab. Log in, then paste the line again.

Older instructions mention a "team-labels" request in the Network tab. Free Email Meter accounts no longer make that request, so it will not appear. The Console line above works on every plan.

Note: the Email Meter team is aware of our integration and they are considering a simpler solution to connecting your account.
